My first voiceover job, as well as my first job ever, was playing a gossiping Muppet named Toya on the Saturday morning series CityKids (Jim Henson Productions/The CityKids Foundation). These two BFFs were called The Dirt Sisters and just working with Muppets was a true dream come true. The first episode aired as a special and was Emmy-nominated!
Being a non-muppeteer voice was a rare opportunity. It was an amazing introduction to the world of voiceover, and the show was a great space to learn since more than just being in the cast we contributed to all aspects of the show as creative assistants and production interns.
Each episode was written and produced “for kids, with kids”.
So retro! So 90’s!
The moral of the story is that I found my dream job at an early age and didn’t even realize it!
I know now, and that’s what matters!
Now many of my favorite projects to work on as a voice actor are for young audiences.
